Valentines Day or Singles Awareness Day?

February 14th is right around the corner. The day when restaurant reservations are a mythical creature, flowers are everywhere, and the chocolate- must resist the chocolate.

Lucky for us singles out there, we don't have to worry about all of that. No stress of presents, no feeling you need to out-do another couple, no sharing your "special evening" with every other couple in the universe. Oh, but the downfall? The entire day you are reminded that you are single. For some- that may be a relief (hey, you're single you can do what you want). For others, like yours truly, it sucks to have all those hearts and lovey-dovey shit thrown in your face. So here's my guide to a butt-kicking Valentine's Single's Awareness Day

Plan Your Evening.
Call your single girlfriends and plan a night. Not a wallow-in-each-others-sadness night. But a night where you don't have to worry about what the guys are doing.
There's two things that make for a fantastic girls night:
1) Wine.
2) Food.

Did I mention 50 Shades of Grey will be in theatres? Who wants to watch that with a boyfriend, I'd rather have my girls so we can swoon over Christian Grey (although I'm less than thrilled with the casting-- please restore my hope Jamie Dornan!)

Go To the Gym Later than Usual.
Wait for the Valentine's crowd to be done and head to the gym. You will have the gym to yourself and the other singles. No more fighting for those cardio machines!.... If only for a night. Make the most of having the gym to yourself. After all, February is American Heart Month.

Pamper Yourself.
First off, Lush. Okay, I'm a "lushie". But really, draw up yourself a nice bath and pop in a bubble bar or bath bomb. Pour yourself a nice glass of wine, light a candle, and soak away. While you're at it, throw on a face mask too! May I suggest Lush's BB Seaweed
Just because you don't have to impress a man doesn't mean you don't get the night to pamper yourself. Go ahead girl, CURL THAT HAIR. Do up your makeup, I'm talking full face of makeup. Wear a cute outfit. Strap on those heels.

Go Homecooked Gourmet.
I wouldn't suggest a junk food fueled night. Just because you aren't with a SO doesn't mean you need to have one of those "break-up nights". Head on over to Pinterest and find yourself a recipe that you want to try. Find something that looks delicious and out of your comfort zone and make a decadent dessert! Make it a full course meal for you and your girls to devour.  Did I mention wine? Always sip while you work.

Relax.

If all else fails, your trusty Netflix is the perfect boyfriend. Curl up in your comfy bed with a cup of tea, start from Season 1 of Friends, let your dog cuddle in bed, and enjoy your relaxation night.

Or Party.

Hey, V-day is on a Saturday night. Once the dishes are cleaned, you're already looking cute, you and the girls sure have a good wine-buzz going. Why not go out for a night on the town!? I'm sure most couples will be home at play, so you're looking at a bar of mostly singles. And yes, I'm positive that he will gladly buy you that vodka soda.

February is synonymous with the color red and hearts everywhere, you instantly pair the two. How about we change the norm? When you think of February- I want you to think of it as the red heart month not due to Valentine's Day but rather as AMERICAN HEART MONTH. Take this month to do something in honor of the AHA. Take a CPR course, push yourself to get fit (like I am!), donate to the AHA. (Also, I hear red wine, in moderation, is good for the heart!)

  1. I never understood that Valentine's day massive fever and never was a fan of chocolate hearts or plastic pink props, no matter if I was single or in a relationship. Luckily for me, my other half feels the same way, and I think this 14 feb we'll just drive to the ocean to have a relaxed day together far far away from all that noise.

  6. I was always so neutral to Valentine's Day. Whether your with someone or not, why not spread the love all the time? Great plans for the day. Nothing like making sure you're happy with yourself before anyone else :) Good post!
